After UFC 306, everyone is fawning over Sphere (isn’t it crazy this is what you have to call it despite the website being thesphere.com) and welcome to club. Sphere is genuinely the coolest, unsettling, and incredible venue i’ve been to. I saw Dead and Company this summer and it was such and unreal show and Sphere stole the show from the second it was unveiled.
But now, the world has seen the Sphere and not just the white guys who dragged their wives to see U2, Phish or Dead & Company. Dana White was the perfect person to bring the sport to Sphere, even he admitted he craves crazy venues when he said, “It’s probably a bad example but at one point I was talking about Elon Musk vs Mark Zuckerberg so any crazy shit that pops up in front of me, and I was legit negotiating with the Colosseum in Italy to do that fight, legitimately in negotiations with them and they don’t let anything happen over there.” after UFC 306.
The only thing that was truly surprising from the UFC 306 card was how well Sphere translated to television. As someone who was watching the card from a bar, I was excited to see how great it looked especially since I have seen it in person. With this being said, are we at the start of sporting events making their way to Sphere? Basketball makes the most sense and the NBA in season tournament screams like the perfect experimental venue. If not, we know that fighting can be done here.
I will be seeing The Eagles there opening weekend and am looking forward to seeing how they decided to utilize the technology.
